About the Tournament
Each year, approximately 400 corporate and business sponsors and individual golfers enjoy a day of golf to support Metroport Meals On Wheels, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that serves as an advocate for the elderly and those in need. We currently serve twenty-two communities in Denton, Tarrant, and Wise Counties and provided 71,121 meals to over 1,400 participants last year!
MMOW’s annual golf tournament is one of the Metroplex’s largest and most successful charity golf tournaments, with community supporters such as Byron and Peggy Nelson (Honorary Chairpersons from 1992 – 2006) – there is even a “Peggy and Byron Nelson Decade of Love Award” presented annually to a volunteer whose service to MMOW exemplifies the dedication of the Nelsons.
About Metroport Meals On Wheels
For 33 years, MMOW has relieved isolation, supported independence, provided nutrition, and enhanced personal safety for our participants. We’ve been Neighbors Helping Neighbors as we provided over 1,000,000 meals to the elderly or disabled in our communities, and with each meal, MMOW has forged a relationship that is treasured by staff, volunteer, and participant alike. MMOW has brought added value to participants by providing monthly deliveries of supplemental, shelf stable breakfast and dinner meals, by providing nutritional supplements at no cost, and by organizing a caring community to provide personal gifts, food, and household supplies during the holidays. MMOW has also connected farmers markets and home, school, and senior center gardeners with extra produce to our participants who relish, but rarely get, fresh fruits and vegetables. MMOW’s ability to partner with the communities we serve, with local food partners, and with active community volunteers enhances the quality of life for everyone involved.
